The obverse features Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The design has been modified through time. The first original design was created by Arnold Machin, included in the coins from 1988-1989. The second design was introduced in 1990 until 2003 and it was created by Dora de Pédery-Hunt. Since 2004 until present, the coin features Susanna Blunt’s design.The reverse displays the Canadian Maple Leaf. The design has remained unchanged since 1988. However, in 2014, radial lines and micro-engraved laser marks were introduced as security features.
