Produced by The Perth Mint since 1986, the sovereign gold series originally featured various gold nugget designs until 1989 when the Kangaroo was introduced.Made of 99.99% pure gold, the 2022 gold kangaroo series holds a legal tender value backed by the Australian Government and minted in six different denominations: $3,000, $100, $50, $25, $15, $5 (1 Kilo, 1 oz, 1/2 oz, 1/4 oz, and 1/10 oz), respectively.The obverse features a majestic adult red kangaroo in a powerful standing position displaying strength and intensity. Alongside there is a joey, a junior kangaroo, on a grassland plain. Finding it difficult to walk backwards, hopping is the kangaroo’s main form of mobility.
