The Noble Spruce is a western North American spruce, native to the Cascade Range and the coastal mountain range mountains of extreme northwestern California, Oregon, and Washington in the United States. It is a high-altitude tree, which normally occurs at 980 to 5 feet. It is a tall perennial needle that reaches 82 meters in native stands, usually 50 to 100 feet in culture. It has a symmetrical and narrow habit of growth with blue-green coniferous needles. The bark on young trees is smooth, gray with resin blisters, turning reddish brown, rough and cracked on old trees. The cones are erect 4 to 10 inches long, 3 inches wide with purple scales that ripen to brown and disintegrate to release the winged seeds in the fall. He is a medium to slow grower, reaching 80 feet in 30 to 60 years. It likes well-drained wet conditions in sun or partial shade and can work well in rocky soils if there is enough moisture.
