Product Description RUTH WALLIS was born in Brooklyn, New York. She studied dancing, voice and piano, so it was only natural that she would pursue a career in show business. After high school, the teenager sang in both the Isham Jones and Benny Goodman (briefly) orchestras. Starting in 1948, she recorded risque songs for Deluxe Records. She went on to form the Wallis Original Record Corp., her own company based in Linden, New Jersey. Unlike many other party records, which could barely afford more than a singer and a piano, Ruth Wallis' songs had full orchestras, usually under the direction of Mac Ceppos or Jimmy Carroll. Ruth Wallis composed the music and lyrics for all of her songs. Although her music ran the gamut from jazz to ballads and calypsos, she became known for her 'saucy' double entendres, understanding that suggestiveness is sexier than blatancy. Typecast as a risque singer, radio stations eschewed her. Her songs were banned in Boston during the Eisenhower era, and Australian customs confiscated her records. This only added to her aura. She traveled extensively as an international star doing her own songs and appeared in top supper clubs in Las Vegas and Miami, and was a sensation and sell out on her tours of Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and London. Ruth retired from the stage in 1970, a veteran of eleven albums which sold worldwide for over two decades. 'Love is for the Birds' was originally released in 1959. Working from the original master, this CD showcases her wry and sardonic perspectives on love, money and relationships. Those who followed her live performances will be reminded of the range of Ruth Wallis' vocal abilities and her prolific writing talents. 'BOOBS ! THE MUSICAL' (subtitled: 'The World According to Ruth Wallis') oopened at the Triad theatre in New York City on May 19, 2003. It garnered rave reviews from the New York Times, The Daily News, New York Magazine, New York Post and Newsday. By closing date, Sunday, February 8, 2004, 'BOOBS' had played 13 previews and 272 performances. It has had subsequent runs in New Orleans and Wichita. 'BOOBS' is a testament to the talent of Ms. Wallis. Not bad for the 'Saucy Redhead' whose records were banned in Boston! About the Artist RUTH WALLIS was born in Brooklyn, New York.
