Product Description Classic children's music from the 1950s! Known to millions as Mr. Green jeans from the Captain Kangaroo TV show, Lumpy Brannum recorded these charming stories about Orley's adventures on his family farm. Accompanied by the skillful orchestrations of Fred Waring & His Pennsylvanians, Uncle Lumpy originally performed the stories for radio, TV and on several popular Decca records. Uncle Lumpy uses clever word play and humor to convey subtle but important life lessons. Brannum's wry storytelling combines a loving "Beverly Hillbillies"-style view of rural life with the slick production of 1950s radio orchestra production. Over the years, the Little Orley stories have achieved a cult status and have been sought after by collectors for many years. Often requested on the Dr. Demento radio show, nostalgic fans can still quote the dialogue of their favorite Orley story. Uncle Goose Toys is pleased to revive this long out-of-print children's favorite. About the Artist Lumpy was originally from Illinois. His family later moved to Redlands, California where he attended Redlands University. Lumpy played string bass in the Marine Corp band and later as a member of Fred Waring and His Pennsylvanians. Lumpy created and narrated the "Little Orley" stories for Fred Waring's radio program of the late 1940s and was a scriptwriter for the Waring TV show in the 1950s. While the Orley stories were a weekly feature of the radio program, the stories were offered less and less often once Waring moved the program to television. The stories were later released on Decca Records (see discography). In 1955, Lumpy joined the Captain Kangaroo show as Mr. Green Jeans. He remained with the show throughout the entire run, retiring to his home in the Poconos in 1984. He died on April 19, 1987. © 2000 LittleOrley
