Product Description Tennyson's warm tones of burgundy and gold create a look of traditional elegance on this bone china pattern. Banded in 22-caret gold. Tienda Royal Doulton, founded in 1815, is one of England's famed producers of fine bone china. Its designers continue to draw on British history and heritage for inspiration; the Tennyson pattern was created in the mid-'90s but was inspired by that Victorian-era poet who wrote the Lady of Shalott. True to Victorian sensibilities, the Tennyson design incorporates floral motifs with neo-Classical elements and contours. The overall contour of the Tennyson cream jug evokes a graceful Grecian water pitcher. Burgundy bands encircle the jug at the mouth and at its widest point; the wider band features a taupe leaf-and-foliage design reminiscent of a William Morris fabric. Both burgundy bands are bordered on both sides with metallic gold, and echoing gold bands decorate the foot and handle. Other setting pieces in the Tennyson pattern include dinner, salad, and dessert plates, as well as a larger soup bowl and an elegant gravy or sauce boat. Because of the gold trim, Tennyson dishes should not be used in the microwave. Royal Doulton china is dishwasher safe; it can handle water temperatures of up to 150 degrees F. When hand washing, avoid abrasive cleansers and scourers. Avoid stacking in other cups, as this might weaken the handle; likewise, in order to protect the rim, do not place upside down in a dish drying rack. The Tennyson cream jug measures 3-1/4 by 5 by 5-1/2 inches and has a 7-1/2-ounce capacity.
