The blanks contain plywood factory waste materials and synthetic industrial glues. These are then "hand" or machine dipped into oils and synthetic fragrances (perfumes) to mimic the scent of a plant or flower. Most of the time burn extenders / fire retardant and mold inhibitors are added. This is why you get unnaturally long burn times of 25-30 minutes from a little incense cone. The plants come from reputable suppliers after I ensure they produce ethical and responsible plants. I grind those plants down into a very fine powder (like flour but even finer than that sometimes!) and I add filtered water or tea and then I mix this together into a dough-like ball. Once the ball of dough is kneaded and mixed really well and the tea or water has absorbed into the plant material, I than take parts of the dough and roll them in my fingers to form incense cones.
