Premiered at the Seoul International New Media Festival,  presented at the Portland Art Museum/Northwest Film and Video Festival USA, at Son &Vue, Montreal, at Festival Internacional de Arte Experimental, Spain. 1/2 of the film was shot using a hand cranked 35mm camera, an antique Bell and Howell 2709 – B. The other half of the film was shot in HD. The film was hand processed and using the colour matrix and gamma of a hand made emulsion (using my own tinted blood cells for grain based on a 1930’s patent) the film was transferred to high definition video. About Representation – analog / binary – & electricity & hydro power & a 1930’s patent that proposes to use tinted blood cells for film grain & British Columbia & the beginnings of cinema via Eadweard Muybridge & the energy certificates of the Technocracy party & the absolute value of noise & the year 1957 & regional modernism & the Big Bang & Vermeer’s «Milk Maid» & Poincare recurrence theorem & the great Canadian cowboy singer Wilf Carter & Western Culture & the concept of Grace in Catholic painting & the Tathagatas of Buddhism & Boris Karloff as Frankenstein reaching for the light. The flow of “energy credits” anchors an economy in the exchange of material resources. Radiation from the Big Bang shows up as snow on your analog TV set. Everywhere in Shot on Blood energy turns into matter, matter turns into images, images turn into moments of illumination, in a continual exchange. Skating along the riffs of thought, a highly intellectual artist sifts through his ideas in order to prepare himself (and us) to abandon them, and plunge into the direct, wordless contemplation of form. Tweaking the technology which turns nature into pictures, he uses mathematics and electricity to plunge us directly into the structure hidden inside the images.»
