From the Label Haddock has a knack for writing really good, basic honky-tonk songs, which he has been doing for sometime now. Out of the ten songs on THE TEXAS HONKY TONK BLUES, he wrote or co-wrote seven. He co-wrote THERE SHE GOES, a country standard that has sold more than 8 million copies by various artists. This CD showcases quite a few songs that Haddock has written since his start in the 50's. He was never one for the rock'n roll music that took off in the mid 50's, always standing true to country music. This album has some excellent fiddle playing and some cutting steel playing. This album is right for those who yearn to sit and sulk in a wooden bar, and maybe come up from the foam of their beer to yell out, Play a song that makes me cry!. So if you like that deep heartfelt lyrical country music and dislike whatever Nashville is force-feeding you at this time, give this CD a try. Even though Haddock went to Nashville to record this, it does not have the sound of today; it has what Nashville used to have when it was really good. Artista biografía DURWOOD MARTIN HADDOCK was born August 16, 1934 in Lamasco, Texas. Durwood's first success came in 1955 when he was barely out of this teens. He and renowned songwriter, Eddie Miller writer of several hit songs, the most notable, RELEASE ME, teamed up in the mid 50's and wrote the standard, THERE SHE GOES which to date has sold in the milllions. The first hit recording was by the legendary country singer, Carl Smith in 1955 whose recording went to the top five in BILLBOARD. The pop singer, Jerry Wallace scored with it when he hit BILLBOARD'S TOP TEN in 1960. In 1980 the song was featured in the OSCAR winnnig movie, COAL MINER'S DAUGHTER, the life story of LORETTA LYNN. Most recently, THERE SHE GOES and I DON'T WANTA another Haddock/Miller composition was re-issued on MCA in the CD box set THE PATSY CLINE COLLECTION and is now Platinum with sales over 8 million. In the late 50's and early 60's he appeared on the Big D Jamboree in Dallas, recorded for D Records and enjoyed regional airplay and sales on that label. In 1962 he recorded for United Artists Records and his self penned BIG NIGHT AT MY HOUSE b/w FUNNY FARM reched the top twenty. Eagle Records released several singles, all of which charted before he signed with Monument Records in Nashville, Tennessee in 1965. After several notable releases with Monument, Haddock moved over to Metromedia Records in 1968 and enjoyed national success with WHEN THE SELLING GOES DOWN b/w CALIFORNIA HILLBILLY BAR followed by Willie Nelson's I GOTTA GET DRUNK(And I Sure Do Dread It) and EAST BOURBON STREET b/w ODDS AND ENDS, BITS AND PIECES in 1971. In the early 70's, Haddock again saw chart action when ANGEL IN AN APRON hit the top 50. He earned an ASCAP AWARD for THE PERFECT LOVE SONG in 1978 which also hit the national charts followed by five singles between 1977 and 1980 receiving national chart action. After a ten year stint in west Texas Broadcasting, Haddock entertained throughout the United States in night clubs and various venues. He quit touring in 1968 and went with a newly formed publishing company which he headed up in Nashville, Tennessee. This association resulted in several songs being recorded on major labels. Ver más
